VIA just launched the ARTiGO A2000, a compact low power consumption barebones storage server ideal for building your own DIY NAS. Supporting two desktop hard drives, this unique barebone storage system is a perfect fit for home download applications, providing ample storage space in an energy-efficient, compact, and low-noise chassis.
The A2000 is powered by a 1.5GHz Nano-ITX board, supports up to 2GB of memory, 3TB (2x 1.5TB) HDD, Gigabit Ethernet and can be booted from Compact Flash as well as HDD, USB and LAN.

With all the pros of this system, the only cons is its price. Currently priced as of this posting at $404.55 in mini-itx.
Unfortunately, the ARTiGO A2000 it is too expensive and underpowered for my requirement so I am building my own home server powered by Intel Atom 330 Dual Core. You can view the result of my research on the list of available atom motherboards on this post.

How is the building of the home server coming? Im looking to do something very similar, and I want it as green as possible, but with enough power to do the same as you need. I would be really interested in a post on what components you purchased, how your getting on putting it together etc.
My only difference is I want to run Alfresco with Ubuntu and possibly use it as a home media server in the future.
